What happens when your TCM fails and there are no new OEM units? Do you want to take a big chance and try one out of a junkyard for $1000- $3000+ and no guarantee? Without a TCM your truck doesn’t move! Or do you trust a company like Goecm that offers a remanufactured unit with a LIFETIME guarantee?
So, my 2006 D code was getting a “low fuel rail pressure” CEL while towing under load and would go into limp mode. That really sucks when you’re towing in traffic and have to find somewhere to pull over and stop. The root cause of this may be due to the CP3 getting weak. When I would stop to reset the CEL on my Banks Economind tuner the shift selector would read “Shift Range Inhibited” and would not allow the transmission to engage until I put the shifter in manual shift mode. As long as I towed in manual shift and kept it out of 6th gear it was rare to get the CEL. My fear wasthe TCM would totally fail and no way the truck would move.
I like my truck and spending $3000 to keep it dependable is easier to swallow than having to scrap it and find a replacement. I was impressed with the answers from Goecm, so I ordered the TCM. I didn’t send in mine as a core because I know it will work in a pinch and I won’t be stuck IF the new one fails. I haven’t towed with the new TCM yet but I put it and the skinny pedal through a hard workout. Passed with flying colors. If you like your truck and are suspect of the TCM you may want to talk to Goecm. Yes, I recommend Goecm and NO, I don’t work for them. They’re in Texas and I’m retired in Arizona. What they do is way above my pay scale!
Hope this helps you with your decision
